Join the Center for Brooklyn History’s Educators for a Professional Development on teaching civics through the history of social and political engagement in Brooklyn!
The NYS Civic Readiness Initiative implores educators to “[empower] all students to make informed decisions for the public good as members of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.” At CBH Education, we feel that the best way to accomplish this goal is to consider how we got here. This all-day Professional Development session will engage local civic history through CBH’s new “People Making Power” exhibition, feature a presentation on the exhibition’s creation by CBH Chief Historian Dominique Jean-Louis, and conclude with CBH Educators sharing strategies for crafting open-ended questions and instilling debate and argument skills through primary source research.
A light breakfast and a full lunch will be provided. Participating educators will receive 6 CTLE credits.
