Two Virtual Sessions Tuesday, November 5, 2024

2024 marks the 400th anniversary of the founding of the New Netherland colony, but how do we responsibly teach this complicated and contentious history? This year New-York Historical Society is offering two virtual workshops for Election Day on this theme. Please register for either or both!

8:30am-11:30am: Rediscovering New Amsterdam
Join keynote speaker Russell Shorto and the New-York Historical Society Education Department for an in depth consideration of how our understanding of the history of New Amsterdam has evolved, and how to teach this content in your classrooms.
Participants will receive 3 CTLE hours

Join keynote speaker Nicole Maskiell and the New-York Historical Society Education Department to learn about the experiences and accomplishments of the first Black people in New York City.
