Poetry as Pedagogy: Jazz and Poetry: Avant-Gardes of Resistance
This workshop will explore the connections between poetry and jazz in the history of New York activism.
Participants in this workshop will learn about teaching poetry as a way of relating to the history of the Civil Rights Movement in New York City. We will also explore the connections between the artistic traditions of jazz and poetry, intimately related in NYC activist history. Participants will also come away with tools for poetry pedagogy to use in the classroom.
2 CTLE hours for eligible participants.
All are Welcome! While this workshop series is geared toward educators of grades 6-12, it is open to all – educators and non-educators. Attendance at all three workshops is not required! Everyone is welcome to participate in any individual workshop.
