Enhancing Equity and Inclusion in Kindergarten Read Alouds
This session is specially designed for kindergarten teachers to explore and enhance the practice of read-aloud as a way to build language comprehension through an equity and inclusion lens. Participants will learn how to select and use diverse books, engage children in meaningful discussions, and use read-alouds as a tool to foster understanding and respect for diversity. The focus will be on creating an inclusive, enriching and purposeful read-aloud experience that resonates with and represents all children.
Kindergarten teachers will leave this session with a deeper understanding of how to conduct read-alouds that not only captivate young minds but also promote a sense of equity and inclusion. They will be equipped with practical tools to select diverse books and facilitate discussions that encourage empathy, understanding, and respect among young learners.
