Book Launch with Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz – The Archaeology of Self: The Introspective Educator’s Guide to Racial Literacy
Mary McDowell Friends School is thrilled to invite you to join us for the launch of Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz’s newest book, The Archaeology of Self: The Introspective Educator’s Guide to Racial Literacy. Join friends, colleagues, educators, and DEI practitioners as we celebrate Dr. Sealey-Ruiz and learn about her blueprint for the collective reimagining of education as a liberatory and humanizing force.
The Book Launch with Dr. Sealey-Ruiz will be held on October 15 at 5 p.m. at the MMFS Upper School, 23 Sidney Place, Brooklyn.
In The Archaeology of Self: The Introspective Educator’s Guide to Racial Literacy, Dr. Sealey-Ruiz invites educators to embark on a lifelong journey of racial literacy, healing, and the pursuit of a bias-free existence. Blending personal narrative, poetry, and guided reflection, The Archaeology of Self offers both a mirror and a map that takes readers through Dr. Sealey-Ruiz’s framework for excavating one’s racial identity, confronting internalized bias, and teaching from a place of critical love, justice, and truth.
Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz is a Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University (TC). She is the founder and faculty sponsor of the Racial Literacy Roundtables Series and the Racial Literacy Project at TC. Dr. Sealey-Ruiz’s work mainly focuses on racial literacy and The Archeology of the Self™—the self exploration, examination, and understanding of where issues of race and racism live within.
A reception will follow the program. Books will be available for purchase, and Dr. Sealey-Ruiz will be signing books.
