ANTISEMITISM: UNDERSTANDING AND COUNTERING THIS HATRED TODAY (DAY 3 OF 3)
Time: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
Michael Bornstein, one of the youngest known survivors of the Auschwitz death camp – and his daughter, TV news producer and co-author Debbie Bornstein Holinstat will host a special Zoom chat for educators sharing details of Michael’s experience in the Holocaust and their journey to co-authoring their young adult memoir, Survivors Club. Through a series of photos, recently discovered documents and memories shared – Michael and Debbie will relate the unforgettable true story of how a father’s courageous wit, a mother’s fierce love, and one perfectly timed illness saved Michael’s life during the Holocaust.
Participants will undoubtedly recognize the iconic photo of a four-year-old Michael at liberation, but few people knew of the miracles behind his survival until he and his daughter released their narrative non-fiction bestseller Survivors Club in March 2017, which they will discuss during the hour-long presentation. Shocking but also uplifting, this story of what happened to Jews in one Polish village in the 1940’s will fascinate those in attendance.
*Note: At the end of the program, Michael and Debbie will be selecting a participant, at random, to receive a classroom set of Survivors Club. This is the final session of a three-part series on Antisemitism, hosted by the Institute of Curriculum Services and Echoes & Reflections.
REGISTRANTS MUST BE U.S./CANADA BASED EDUCATORS ONLY. Participants must attend Days 1 and 2 to participate in Day 3.
