Film in the Classroom: Korea- Political Conflicts on Screen

Film is a versatile teaching material for social studies, humanities, literature, and art education. In this series, Korean art and literary culture scholars will share three South Korean films set during 1700s Joseon court politics, the Korean War (1950-1953), and the Gwangju Uprising of May 1980, as well as offer perspectives on their cinematographic techniques. Teachers will consider the cultural, historical, and social contexts in which the films are situated and how Korean filmmakers are exploring, voicing, and memorializing their past.
