Helen Oakes was passionate about the students
and teachers of Philadelphia. For nineteen years her
newsletter framed the conversation around teaching
and learning in schools throughout the City.
To honor her legacy, the Helen Oakes Literacy Institute
was created for Philadelphia’s public school teachers.
This year, we’re focusing on equitable access to literacy,
culturally responsive pedagogy, and research-driven
best practices.
Featuring a captivating keynote by Erica Snowden,
Director of Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion at
Friends Central School, and breakout sessions from
Read by 4th, AIM Institute for Research and Learning,
and Saint Joseph’s University
