Early Career Fellowship / The Academy for Teachers
Teachers begin their careers full of passion, but a depressing 50% don’t make it to year five. The situation is worse for teachers of color, who are already underrepresented in the profession.
Being part of The Academy for Teachers makes an experienced teacher four times more likely to stay in the profession. With the Early Career Fellowship, we turn our attention to teachers at the beginning of their classroom journeys, when they are most overwhelmed, insecure, and uncertain.
The Early Career Fellows are promising teachers, and particularly teachers of color, who come together for a year of world-class master classes, workshops, and fun. During the year, they will turn to each other for support, be mentored by Fellows of The Academy for Teachers, and join our larger community of strong and experienced teachers.
In 2021-2022 we have a cohort in English and a cohort in special education. Each cohort will be intimate, with just 18 teachers. Teachers from public, private, and charter schools in the New York City area with 1 to 5 years of full-time classroom experience are eligible for nomination or application.
